As we approach the end of another school year, we’re still focussing much of our activity on the on-going implementation of the SEND reforms. You can read more about it in the SEND reform section. Although the new systems have now been in place for over a year there are still issues in sustaining the new processes in the long term; we will continue to represent families in Council working groups and try and get feedback on what’s working and what’s not.
From May 2016 Ofsted/CQC will be inspecting ‘Local Areas’ (Local Authorities and Health providers and other organisations) to judge how well they are identifying and providing for children with SEND. A big part of the inspection will include consultation with parent/carers and young people, so see how they are being involved. We are working with the Council to understand our respective roles in the inspection process.
The Department for Education and Mencap have developed an easy read guide to the SEND reforms, which may help you and your family understand what the reforms are about. It can be found here:- MENCAP easy read SEND guide
