We understand that Short Breaks funding for 2016/2017 is yet to be finalised, but the Council has consulted families on which schemes that families value most. The consultation closed at the end of 2015 and the results will shape how the Council uses their Short Breaks funding. We have been involved in the development of an action plan on Short Breaks and are broadly in agreement with their proposals. There may be further opportunities to influence how the budget is spent, so if you have any views, please get in touch with us.
Our involvement in Short Breaks has taken a bit of a back seat throughout the SEND reform process, but as things settle hopefully we’ll be able to particpate in the Council’s Short Breaks planning more effectively. To do this we’d welcome your feedback and experiences of Short Breaks provision in Wandsworth. If you have any other ideas about activities and events, please let us know and we can suggest them.
In previous years Short Breaks services that have been prioritised are: Special Schools’ summer schemes, specialist play provision and Lady Allen. Share a Family also continue to provide Short Breaks services in the Borough. This is in addition to small grants for organisations wishing to promote inclusion and sports and leisure activities. We expect these priorities to remain. The Council are looking at setting up an additional special swim session, to help relieve the waiting lists for other groups.
The Council will be able to let you know more about what’s going on. Please contact the Family Information Service who can be reached by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling 020 8871 7899.
